I have joined these two locations on one page because, well, I felt like it.  And they both start with 'R'.

I couldn't see much of the railway formation, but I did stop to have a look at the restored windmill and water tower.

Waikaka sign   The sign says it all! The only other known Railway windmill was at Belgrove in Nelson, but I think it has been moved.
There's something missing missing from the windmill... can't quite figure out what.... <kidding>
Waikaka water vat and windmilli
Porridge factory Nothing to do with the Waikaka Branch, I just liked the look of the Creamoata factory in Gore. Creamota is a well known brand of porridge.
This is the reason I got distracted: The Croydon Aircraft Company at Mandeville. They have a web sitre at http://www.croydonaircraft.com.

Croydon Aircraft hangar at Mandeville, New Zealand

Signs of railway preservation at Mandeville Just behind the hangar is this goods shed and length of track. What gives?
